I picked up these beautiful cutting boards one day knowing they could make an easy tray. I then grabbed some galvanized hardware that I de-glossed and aged a bit, then assembled the tray in less than 10 minutes!
Supplies:
2 pulls – I used these
vinegar if you wish to age the pulls
mending plates – if you are using more than 1 cutting board
cutting board (I used 2 mended together), but I also love this one from Pioneer Woman
Steps:
- Aging the pulls – Grab a jar, and fill it with a solution of roughly 1:1 vinegar/ water mix. Let your pulls soak. Check them after about 10 minutes to see if you are happy with the level of distress. In the picture below, you can see the new pull in the package, and the one to the right that was in vinegar for 10 minutes. If you want your pulls to go darker, leave them in for 30 minutes +. The second comparison pic below shows the difference between 10 minutes on the right and 40 minutes on the right. If you want your screws distressed, throw them in there too. I find they take a lot longer.
- If you are joining two boards together like I did, flip them upside down and screw in the mending plates.
- Flip over right side up and screw in your pulls. Seriously, does it get any easier?? 🙂
