Here we go again! I just took possession of my latest flip house, so it’s time for a little tour. And I don’t use “little” lightly… 🙂
She really is a baby… 2 bedrooms, 1 bath… more on that later.
The smallest part is definitely the kitchen, and you’ll see later how the previous homeowner tried to to fit in a bigger fridge (bigger as in 30″!)
We should begin in the basement, as that was the first part I saw. When we get a new house, it’s up to us to “break in”. Thankfully, the my brother-in-law had found that the bilco door wasn’t locked. It was just me and the kids, and I really wanted to get in the house, so I overcame a LOT of fears walking into this basement. I was praying I didn’t see any rodents!
Now let me back up… earlier this month, we had peeked in the windows that weren’t covered and were happy to see an empty living room with just a recliner. We were excited we wouldn’t have to do a ton of cleaning out before digging in with the renovations. Fast forward to this scene in the basement…
(While digging through that ping pong table, I actually found a little exercise trampoline. Curious what else will be uncovered!)
So yeah, there is a lot in the basement that we need to work through. I’ve started donating clothing and we are hoping to have a yard/free sale soon to find homes for other things. There are nice old dressers and exercise equipment and tons of other stuff we haven’t gotten to yet.
At the top of the basement steps is the kitchen, which is the biggest conundrum of this house. The cabinets must be original to the house, as the doors are OSB.
Here you can see to the right of the sink is the refrigerator. The wall there was actually angled out to give some room to slant the fridge to the door could be opened. You can see on the ceiling where the wall should be.
In the pic above, you can see how boxed in the kitchen is. Behind the wall with the green cabinet is HVAC and the door is the basement door. So we can’t move the door without moving the steps, and unfortunately, there is just really no where else for the steps to go.
Through the kitchen doorway is a very generously sized living room for a house this size, although the dining area may be in front of that double window in the pic below.
And as my brother-in-law pulled up the carpet, we were happy to find hardwood floors underneath, which go through the entire house (we think). We still aren’t sure about the kitchen.
Off the living room is the hallway, which leads to the bedrooms and bathroom.
And here’s the exciting part! A surprise 3rd bedroom! It may not seem like a big deal, and it certainly isn’t big, but listing a 3 bedroom will be a huge leg-up over a 2 bedroom. This is actually the room on the other side of the angled kitchen wall. You can see how it is slanted.
At this point we are brainstorming how to improve the functionality of the kitchen and hoping to add in a dishwasher. We don’t have a huge budget based on final selling price; we will have to be creative and do the best we can with what we have.
Hope you’re ready for another fun trip!
