I know I’ve been MIA, but I’ve had good reason. Unfortunately, work has come to a bit of a screeching halt over at the Plain Jane. Our contractor who is putting in the flooring had some personal things to take care of, and the floors still haven’t been started.
Island
I’m eager to get the kitchen floors in so that the kitchen can go in, and I can get the island installed and not have it looming over me. As I mentioned in my last post, I’m anxious about how it is going to turn out. I feel good about the back and sides, I’m just nervous about blending the corners where the new meets the old. As of yesterday, I took my final cabinet back over to the garage, awaiting installation. I was excited to get all of the staining and “poly’ing” done, and so now everything is there and waiting.
Paint
The interior painting is done, and once I went in, I realized it took another project off my to-do list: the fireplace.
The fireplace seemed awkward, and I really wasn’t a fan of the wood mantel mixed with the black surround. I wanted to take the mantel off, but the painters went ahead and painted it. Quite frankly, I think it looks so much better, and I’m going to leave it as-is.
And you can see in the picture above how the paint looks. It’s still too blue and dark for me. Getting a good very, very slight gray color is so challenging!
Cabinets
I’m working on painting other cabinets, also. I’ve primed and am ready to paint the laundry room cabinets. Here is where I kick myself for not having a proper before photo…
And here is the paint color for the vanities… Sherwin Williams Refuge.
Upstairs, the hall bath vanity has been sanded and primed. I’m also mostly through the linen cabinet.

Front Porch
The front porch got a bit of an update. The previous columns were rotting and needed to be replaced. We ended up going with a simple vinyl sleeve and removing the railing. And then we got a new front door, which makes a HUGE difference inside the house. There is so much more light!
Master Bath Tile
And lastly, I previewed the tile options in my last post, and now you can see my final selection.
The bottom is the floor tile, the patterned tile will go inside the shower niches, and the blue tile will be at the top of the shower. I’m excited to see it come together! And the fact that I’m getting all of the patterned tile for the niches for less than $12 is AWESOME!
What’s Next
I’m working on finishing all of this painting, and I still have hardware and lighting selections to make. Hopefully soon, I’ll be able to get the island wrappped up. Hope you check back in to see how it’s going!
