January and February are my favorite times to do some updates around the house, when the outdoor chores aren’t calling and the weather outside isn’t much fun. Last winter, I refinished a bed frame for our master bedroom and installed crown and picture frame molding in our foyer and playroom. So in the back of my head, I was already targeting the dining room for this year.
When we built our house, we saved by passing on things that could more easily be added later, like trimwork. And as I’m building my skills with crown molding, I’m focusing on small areas, like the foyer, where all I have are 4 inside corners, which is a good way to start with learning crown skills. So of the home’s main living areas, the dining room is the next logical spot.
The other major change spurring on this update is I’m ready for a new dining room table. Long story but I never got matching chairs for the table we bought. I made 2 benches, and although they are useful, I wanted something a little more formal and comfortable for a place we use daily.
So my general plan is:
- Updated dining table and chairs
- New trim and paint
- A rug – our dining room isn’t great sound wise. I’m hoping the addition of a rug will help quiet down some of the echoes.
- A new light fixture
- Curtains and rods
- Potential storage
I’m excited to share with you my progress!
