Wow – November and December have been fun ones. We’ve had many special occasions and family gatherings, even more than a typical holiday season. But in the midst of it all, we did get the Plain Jane on the market. It’s always a relief, but now the waiting begins. Ready for a tour?
Exterior
Ah, another of my houses has gone on the market in the winter, which makes for not-so-great outdoor pics. But this house did get some love outside. There is new paint outside along with the extensive landscaping clean out, deck re-do and front porch fix-up.
Foyer
The new half glass front door feels much more welcoming while also brightening the foyer. Also in the foyer, we took off the double doors heading to the kitchen as they just seemed to be in the way. The openings to the family room and the living room are now trimmed out.
Living and Dining
The living room sits directly to the left of the foyer. We widened and trimmed out the doorway to the dining room to improve flow and light while giving a better feel of openness. The continuity of flooring throughout the foyer, living, dining and family rooms also helps with flow. The beautiful bay window at the front of the house was previously covered in overgrown landscaping, but the room is now bright.
Family Room
The family room was previously separated from the breakfast area by a half wall, and the fireplace felt blah. The half wall is now gone, and the fireplace is much brighter with just some paint.
Kitchen
I plan to go through the kitchen changes in a separate post, including workarounds for the limitations of stock cabinets and the island redo. My main goals with the kitchen were to brighten and modernize it a bit while increasing the island size. We pulled the cabinets away from the window a bit and added some open shelving, a counter depth fridge and slide in range. The island was created from the original island and kitchen cabinets.
Powder Room and Laundry
We refreshed the powder room with a new sink, faucet, vanity, light and toilet, while the laundry room cabinets got new paint and hardware.
Hall Bath
The hall bath received some fresh paint on the vanity and tub, a new sink, light, and hardware, and a custom linen cabinet for extra storage.
Master Bath
The master bath was completely redone with a new tile shower, vanity, mirrors, lights and tile flooring.
Hope you have enjoyed the tour.
Wishing you and yours a year full of blessings and peace. Happy New Year!
