I’m all done with the dining room update… for now. I have more things to tweak, including art work and other furniture, but that will take some time to find. And for now, I’m quite busy starting on two new big projects. I’ll be sharing those with you soon!

Light | Artwork | Table | Rug | Curtains | Chair

For now though, here is where we are 🙂

This room continues to be difficult to photograph, as there are so many windows. Aside from the light, I feel like I’m just photographing windows, which is a bit boring. But here is where I have ended up.

New Moulding

I installed crown, chair rail, and picture frame moulding around the bottom. I had originally planned on installing moulding above the chair rail also (it’s all painted in cut in my workshop), but I stopped short while I was putting up the curtains and rods. So I may still go back to that, but in the meantime I’m sitting with it just on the bottom. Everything from the chair rail down, along with all window and door trim, was painted in Sherwin Williams Eider White.

Updated Table & Chairs

I last shared with you how I refinished this table, and I am really enjoying not just its shape but also its lighter color. Due to stock issues with the chairs, I decided to simply paint some of the chairs that originally came with the table. And due to paint issues, I’ve decided I’m never painting chairs again. I mean, really, they are a pain. If there ever is a next time, I’ll be pulling out my paint sprayer. For now, though, they are standing in. They are slightly small and rather uncomfortable so once I’m able to get a new set of chairs, these chairs will retire to my staging inventory.

Rug & Curtains

I am enjoying having a rug that anchors the space. I went with a polypropylene rug here for both affordability and dealing with stains. It is inevitable that spills will happen. But I’ve found polypropylene is very forgiving in terms of cleaning. Also the varied design and colors help hide any imperfections. And lastly, if all else fails, I wouldn’t feel so bad about needing to replace it because it is such a great price! You can find it here.

I originally leaned towards green curtains, but I really liked the way these velvet curtains in Stone Blue matched the rug. The thicker curtains help control light and, along with the rug, also help with acoustics.

New Chandelier

And last, but certainly not least, our new chandelier. I like the proportions of the linear chandelier to the room size better than the smaller round one that had been there before. I had looked for a while for something with interesting glass, but I just kept coming back to this one, and I don’t regret it.

Wrapping Up

Next I will be sharing with you how I installed the picture frame moulding, along with my tricks for caulking. For now, here’s a roundup of this dining room series.

  • Very pretty! I hear you on trying to find dining chairs. We are a family of 6 and it feels like a fortune to buy 6 chairs now. At some point, our 11yr old west elm chairs will force my hand, but until then tightening the screws has sufficed. :)
I love the idea of a linear chandelier like that for a rectangular table. Looks very balanced.
