We finally let our red, white and blue fly! I have been wanting to hang our flag, but I wasn’t quite sure where to put it. And of course, I didn’t want to put holes in our siding, so I made a movable flag pole. I started with this cedar planter by Ana White, and then modified it to hold the flag pole.
Supplies:
Supplies for Cedar Planter plus:
4×4 post anchor and screws – Here is the one I used
3 2×6 @ 17 1/8″ – bottom of planter

2 2×4 @ 16 1/2″ – vertical post supports
2 1×4 @ 17 1/8″ – horizontal post braces
1 1×6 @ 5 1/2″ – post top
1 1×4 @ 3 1/2″ – post top
Deck Screws
2 1/2″ pocket screws

I love this!! You should do home show demonstrations where customers pay for the supplies and you help us create. Just saying!! Lol
The link for the flag pole goes to Kohl’s fir a darkening shade rod. Do you recall where the pole is from? I love this project, I never make anything but I had to make this one!
Hi Kathie,
I have a pole like this: https://amzn.to/2lTCABo
My bracket has broken and therefore I wouldn't recommend it. I had one with the notches so that you can hang at a lot of different angles. Next time I will get one like this: https://amzn.to/2o4z5bX
Hope this helps and good luck!
Thank you!
This looks awesome! I'm curious to know how this has stood up to higher winds. Does it move around?
Hi Emma, with bricks in the bottom, I haven't had any issues with it moving. My only change would be making the soil area deeper to help with planting. Good luck!
