Butcherblock Coffee and End Tables

 

On my last trip to IKEA, I went armed with a list of staging items I needed for the flip house, which included both a small dining table and some accent tables.  Unfortunately, I didn’t want to spend much, and the only things in my price range in the accent table department were the Lack tables.  Now, I’ve owned my share of Lack tables, and there are also awesome hacks out there for them, but I jut didn’t think it was the right fit for what I was trying to do.  Then, in the kitchen section my sister saw that their beautiful butcherblock countertops were on sale.  I got a 74″ long piece for $75! I wasn’t exactly sure how I would use it, but I took one home (which was an adventure in and of itself with a gaggle of kids and a long countertop in tow).

I decided to make a coffee table and 2 end tables. I wanted the table itself to be simple so that the butcherblock would shine.  And that’s when I found this coffee table by Ana White.  I knew the simple base would give a modern balance to the warm farmhouse feel of the top.

It was also the perfect combination for staging furniture – easy to move, easy to store, easy to make, and budget friendly.

I followed Ana’s plans but modified the sizes.  The countertop is 25 5/8″ deep.  I divided it into two 15.75″ pieces for the end tables and left the rest , ~42.25″ for the coffee table.  The coffee table legs are 15.5″ tall, and the end table legs are 22″ tall.

Although I ultimately decided to paint the legs, I did toy with leaving them unstained.  I thought the two wood tones looked beautiful together!  But when I pulled it into the living room at the flip house, there were just too many wood tones in the room already.
