My love of ventilated cabinet doors inspired the bath cabinet I made for the Plain Jane. And so I wanted to pass that love on to you with some of my favorite inspirational pics, as well as a material ideas for you, if you’re making doors or busting out a solid panel to put one in yourself.

Materials

I’ve rounded up some common materials you can use, although these are all metal. I did not venture into soft materials such as caning, linen, or other cloths.

This is what I used on my bath cabinet. I liked the shape of it, though I installed the diamonds vertically, and it fit my need for a budget find that was wide enough to fit my door. Most sheets are 12″ wide max, and wider ones cost significantly more. It was tough to cut. I used these tin snips and it took some time to get through it all.

Expanded Steel

There are many metal meshes and hardware cloth options out there. Here are just a couple.

And then there are these premade metal sheets that can be cut down to your desired size. You can easily find them in a silver color, or gold or copper. But have no fear, any of these will take spray paint easily.

And lastly, if you are looking for a super budget find, check out stucco netting. The openings are on the larger side, and it’s a bit rough. But depending on where you are using it, it could be just the ticket.

Be sure to have tin snips on hand to make your cuts. You will need to get the right kind to cut through your selected material.
